Common Bikini Buying Mistakes - And How To Avoid Them

Common Bikini Buying Mistakes - And How To Avoid Them

While shopping online can be difficult, with not being able to try on or feel the item, IRL shopping can be just as frustrating. We know from personal experience how disheartening it can be, grabbing item upon item to try on but not feeling cute in anything. There’s nothing worse than leaving a store empty handed and with a cloud hanging over your head.

Hopefully with these tips, next time you go bikini shopping you’ll leave with a couple sets and a newfound confidence!

Tip #1: Something I personally swear by – if you know you’re going to be shopping and trying stuff on, especially swim, try to look and feel your best! Whether or not you wear a lot of makeup or do your hair every day, primping yourself as much as you're comfortable with will add so much needed confidence to your trying-on excursion. I hate putting on a cute outfit or bikini just to not love it because it’s overshadowed by me looking like I just rolled out of bed.

Tip #2: Don’t be afraid to ask for help! The sales associates are there for a reason, and would love nothing more than to help you find something you feel beautiful in. Because we spend so much time around bikinis, we know what styles fit which body types, what colors look good on which skin tones, and lots of other useful information. Additionally, women’s sizing differs from brand to brand, like an X-Small in one brand’s top could be size equivalent to another brand’s Medium. Us sales associates know our inventory like the back of our hands, and can offer other size solutions when you’re having trouble finding something that fits.

Tip #3: Just because it’s affordable doesn’t mean it’s worth it. We understand that paying a good chunk of change for what is verifiably a “scrap of fabric” can be frustrating, or feel like it’s not worth the price. However, when it comes to quality and longevity, there is a reason some brands have such a high price point. We recommend saving up for one or two good bikinis that you can use for years and years, rather than having a bin stuffed with pieces that are stretched, fraying, or even falling apart.

Tip #4: Bring a friend! There’s nothing better than trying on something you’re maybe not so sure of, then leaving the fitting room and having your girls hype you up. Having a supportive female presence around as you’re doing something out of your comfort zone is an easy way to let loose and have fun during something that might be otherwise daunting. Make sure to choose who you bring carefully though, nobody wants a crabby in-law questioning your cheeky bikini bottom.

Tip #5: Remember that you are gorgeous, unique, and that inner light shines brighter than anything on the outside ever could. Confidence. Is. Everything.

With this surefire guide to bikini buying, you’ll never feel uncomfortable in the fitting room again.
